American Exchanger Services, Inc. (AM-EX) is a manufacturer of the highest quality and most efficient heat transfer equipment including feedwater heaters, unfired heat exchangers, main steam condensers, and other miscellaneous equipment for the global market. AM-EX is a certified ASME Code Shop holding the “U” Stamp for fabrication, the “R” Stamp for repairs, and the “PP” Stamp for power piping. We are a member of HEI, helping to write the standards for the entire heat exchanger industry.
AM-EX is headquartered in West Allis, Wisconsin with fabrication and machining facilities in Hartford, Wisconsin. AM-EX was incorporated in 1984 by Thomas J. Muldoon, PE. Today, under the same ownership, AM-EX leads the industry in the design, fabrication, and service of heat transfer equipment for the Power Generation, Process, Nuclear, Pulp and Paper, and Renewable Energy industries.
After working for UOP and Perfex, Tom Founded AM-EX in 1985 to provide field and shop services and the manufacturing of heat transfer equipment including high pressure feedwater heaters, condensers and other heat exchangers for the power, process, and paper industries. s. AM-EX has grown to also provides advance fabrication technologies for the manufacturer of high reliability feedwater heaters and heat exchangers.
Tom contributes to the industry as an author of numerous ASME papers, and presents at countless EPRI Symposiums on High Pressure Feedwater Heaters and Joint Power Generation Conferences. Paper topics include Explosive Welding Repairs in Nuclear and Critical Service Applications, Field Modifications of Heat Exchangers and the Use of a Second Law Approach for Cost Modeling of the Deterioration in pPower Plant Equipment, Advanced Sesigns of High Pressure Feedwater Heaters. In addition to the expertise in the field of heat transfer, AM-EX also has expertise in the areas of high energy fabrication.
Mr. Bruno joined AM-EX in November of 2001 to develop and expand the service and product recognition in the Power markets.
Before joining AM-EX, Mr. Bruno served in several positions for BDT Engineering. As Director of Technical Services, he directed the development of the integrated information system as well as managed the engineering and QA departments. As Manufacturing Manager, he worked closely with welders, fitters, assemblers, and inspectors to develope processes and improve quality. As Operations Manager, he controlled all facets of the design and manufacturing of a multi-million dollar heat transfer shop.
Before working with the manufacturing side of the business, Mr. Bruno worked in Sales and Marketing for Southwestern Engineering (previously Perfex Energy Systems) marketing Feedwater Heaters and Shell and Tube Heat Exchangers to the Utilities and AE’s in the Central and Eastern United States. Mr. Bruno also managed the startup operation of Perfex Services, which worked specifically with Power Plants to service heat transfer equipment such as Feedwater Heaters with explosive tube plugging and field retubing.

He helped AM-EX become an accredited ASME CODE shop and has integrated the engineering, plant scheduling, quality, and fabrication with WIP and Cash Management. Tom has worked in all aspects of the business from project estimating and sales through export /import shipping documents. In addition to management duties, Tom is responsible for engineering the custom technical products AM-EX builds.
He was awarded Best Paper at the ASME power conference in 2014 and his paper was on the cover Energy Tech magazine for engineering work performed on feedwater heaters. Tom received the CH2MHill "Outstanding Vendor" award for his technical work and management on a critical kettle re-boiler repair project in 2014. Tom is a member of the HEI technical committee and is also on the ASME Section III Fusion Energy Devices Committee he also frequents trade and business events/groups around Milwaukee. Tom enjoys spending time with his wife and 4 kids, playing soccer, and guitar.
After receiving his BSME from the University of Massachusetts - Amherst, Kellen joined the AM-EX team full time as a Mechanical Engineer in 2013. Kellen has been integral in expanding the company's international reach, particularly in emerging international markets. To this end, the AM-EX team was awarded the Exporter of the Year (Great Lakes Region) Award from the SBA.
Kellen's expertise lies in providing value to power generation customers through reliable service and the most efficiently-engineered and on-schedule equipment including Feedwater Heaters, Steam Surface Condensers, and BOP Shell and Tube Heat Exchangers.
